How does Kilevo calculate my mileage reimbursement?
Kilevo calculates your mileage reimbursement by applying the IRS standard mileage rate of the year to the miles of each trip. The formula is miles × rate: the rate depends on the type of the trip, business or charitable, and on nothing else. No brackets, no annual tiers, no difference between vehicles.
In practice, for each counted trip:
- The distance is calculated by road route (Google Maps), doubled if the trip is a round trip, and stored in miles.
- The rate of the trip type is applied: in 2026, 72.5 cents per mile for a business trip and 14 cents per mile for a charitable trip. A trip synced from your calendar counts as business unless you change its Type.
- The amounts add up over the year: 9,200 business miles in 2026 give 9,200 × $0.725 = $6,670.
- Tolls and parking fees with a receipt are added to that amount in the Allowances tile of the counter.
Trips marked Excluded are never counted. Each year has its own rate: 2026 trips are calculated at the 2026 rate, 2025 trips at the 2025 rate of 70 cents.
The calculation details link, under the counter, shows the formula applied to each of your vehicles. To test another scenario without an account, the mileage reimbursement calculator applies the same rates as the app.
