Is the mileage rate higher for an electric vehicle?
No. The IRS standard mileage rate is the same for an electric vehicle as for a gas car: 72.5 cents per business mile in 2026. Kilevo applies that rate whatever the Fuel of the vehicle, so your mileage reimbursement is calculated the same way.
- Open Settings, then My vehicles.
- Add the vehicle, or click Edit on an existing one.
- Under Fuel, choose Electric, then click Save.
The fuel is recorded with the vehicle, and the calculation stays the same: 10,000 business miles in an electric vehicle give 10,000 × $0.725 = $7,250, exactly as in a gas car. The calculation details link, under the counter, shows the formula applied, and the PDF mileage log prints the miles, the rate and the amount in its Summary by trip type.
A Hybrid vehicle is treated the same way: the IRS makes no distinction by drivetrain, and neither does Kilevo.
Home charging is not deductible on top of the standard rate, any more than gasoline is for a gas car: the rate is a flat figure that covers energy, maintenance and depreciation. Whether the standard rate or actual expenses serves an EV driver better is explained on the electric vehicle mileage rate page.
