Kilevo vs Driversnote

Driversnote records your drives while you drive them, using your phone's GPS and, optionally, an iBeacon in the car. Kilevo never rides along. It reads the appointments in your calendar and turns the ones with a location into trips.

The difference in one sentence

Driversnote knows that you drove. Kilevo knows why.

GPS records a movement from A to B. It does not know whether B was a client, a supply run, or your dentist. You classify each drive afterward, one swipe at a time. Kilevo starts from the appointment: the title becomes the business purpose, the location becomes the destination, and the trip is created as a round trip from your default address. The IRS asks for a business purpose, not just a distance — see what your log has to show.

Where Driversnote wins

Plainly, because for many readers this settles it.

• Not every drive lives in a calendar. A contractor stopping at a supplier, a courier, a rideshare driver: none of that gets typed into a calendar. Driversnote captures it anyway. Kilevo will see nothing.
• There is a mobile app. Kilevo has none. Everything happens in the browser.
• The free plan is wider: 15 trips, against 5 with us.
• The mileage is measured, not estimated from a mapping API. If you take a detour, Driversnote counts it. We do not.

If your driving is unscheduled, stop reading and take Driversnote. Kilevo will not do the job.

Where Kilevo wins

• Nothing to launch, nothing to forget. GPS tracking assumes the app is running, the battery holds, and you remember to classify the drive. An appointment in a calendar produces a trip even if you left your phone at the office.
• The business purpose fills itself in, straight from the appointment title. That is the field auditors ask about, and the one people leave blank.
• You can go back in time. Install Kilevo in June and it reads your calendar from January 1. GPS never recovers a drive it did not record.
• Price. $69 per year with us, against $11 per month — $132 a year — with them.
• Receipts are merged into the PDF, at the end of the report, ready to hand to an accountant.
• Multi-country. Kilevo also computes for France and the Netherlands, which matters if you file in more than one place.

Incomplete addresses

This is the structural weakness of reading a calendar, and we have spent real time on it. People write “120 Main Street” with no city. There are hundreds of Main Streets.

Kilevo looks for the match closest to your home address, not the most popular one. When two searches disagree, the trip is flagged as a guessed address and the chosen address is shown. One click confirms it for every appointment with the same title, now and in the future. A video call — Teams, Meet, Zoom — yields zero miles, never an invented distance. GPS does not have this problem. That is the price of never having to launch anything.

A note for W-2 employees

Whichever tool you pick: if you are an employee, unreimbursed business mileage is no longer deductible on your federal return. Your log exists to obtain reimbursement from your employer, not a deduction. Both products serve that purpose. Self-employed readers deduct on Schedule C, and the standard mileage rate for 2026 is $0.725 per mile. Confirm anything tax-related with the IRS or a professional.
