How do I see the details of my mileage calculation?
The details of the calculation are one click away: under the counter of the Trips page, the calculation details link opens the Mileage Allowance Calculation Formula window, with one card per vehicle.
- On the Trips page, find the Full-year projection line, just under the four tiles of the counter.
- Click calculation details.
- For each vehicle, read the Total Distance in miles since January 1, the Formula applied, in the form (mi × rate), and the Calculated Amount.
The formula always reflects your current situation: the IRS standard mileage rate of the year, applied to the miles of your trips. The same detail is printed in the PDF mileage log, in the Summary by trip type table, with the miles, the rate per mile and the amount for business and for charitable driving, so that your accountant or the IRS can check the calculation without asking you a question.
The Full-year projection estimates the total on December 31 by counting the appointments already in your calendar for the coming weeks. The tiles of the counter, on the other hand, stop at the end of the period on screen.
